Tell the Assembly to Eliminate edTPA

•Urge the Assembly Leadership to POST and PASS A677

On Thursday, May 19th, the Assembly Education Committee unanimously passed A677, a bill that would eliminate the use of edTPA in New Jersey, with overwhelming bipartisan support. Now it’s the whole New Jersey Assembly’s turn to act. Urge your representatives to sign on as sponsors to the Assembly bill, and then demand that the Assembly Oversight, Reform and Federal Relations Committee post the bill for a hearing and a vote.

BACKGROUND:

EdTPA, is another high stakes assessment created by Pearson. It requires teachers to prepare a portfolio of materials during their student teaching clinical experience. Teacher candidates must submit unedited video recordings of themselves (and their students) as they teach in their classrooms.

  TAKE ACTION:

Write your representatives in the NJ Assembly and tell them to eliminate edTPA as a requirement to gain teacher licensure.

Urge them to sign on as a sponsor of A677 and to post the bill for a hearing and vote in the Assembly Oversight, Reform and Federal Relations Committee.
